Tuvalu

Created: 13 Aug 2014 / Categories: Website Design

Project description

A well known coastal home decor brick and mortar shop located in Laguna Beach, California wanted to branch out into ecommerce and desired a customized online experience that reflected the vision of their brand and philosophy. Designing the look of the website came first, factoring in complex ordering options, shipping options, and a need for dimensions on every product. Unique touches were added, including a ghosted whale (part of their branding) that appeared when mousing over a product photo, special drop down menus, "tuva-luvs" ribbons to indicate staff favorites, and patterned accents and font usage consistent with branding. Zynk Designs worked with an outside programming agency to give direction for developing a custom shopping cart solution tied into real time inventory, and test the shopping cart before launch. All copywriting was by Zynk Designs, including extensive return policy and shipping information pages. In-house staff were trained by Zynk Designs on how to properly add new products and manage inventory and shipping memos.

Zinc Door Website and Blog

Created: 12 Aug 2011 / Categories: Website Design

Project description

Zinc Door was a offshoot company developed by a client of mine, Layla Grayce, to showcase modern and transitional furniture and home decor.  Having worked with them since the start of their first company, the owners were inspired enough by the name of my company to use a variation of it when coming up with the name of their new business.  They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery... so Zynk Designs created a full branding package that include logo design, business ID, invitations to the launch party, tee shirt designs, stickers, and even icing designs for cookies (it was a very fun launch party).

Although hired as an independent contractor, Zynk Designs operated very much as in in-house creative director, creating the website and blog design, working with outside tech companies to develop a custom built shopping cart that could manage complex product and shipping options, and providing direction to Zinc Door's in house staff.  During my time working for Zinc Door, I created all their magazine print ads, email marketing campaigns, and online banner ads.

Layla Grayce Print Ads

Created: 13 Aug 2009 / Categories: Marketing, Print

Project description

Hired as an independent contractor to develop an ecommerce website for a new business, Zynk Designs then went on to work for Layla Grayce for many years, operating as an out-of-house creative director managing the website, responsible for developing all creative materials to unify branding. Print ads were placed monthly in various magazines, and postcards created for the LG affiliate program.

The company later closed, and today a streamlined Layla Grayce website is run by former employees of the original owners.

Layla Grayce Website and Blog

Created: 30 Jul 2009 / Categories: Website Design

Project description

Hired as an independent contractor to develop an ecommerce website for a new business, Zynk Designs then went on to work for Layla Grayce for many years, operating as an out-of-house creative director. The business model and shopping cart programming were very complex due to the wide range of products and three major categories of women's, children's and furniture/home goods.  Zynk Designs created the website and set up all initial products, options, shipping configurations, and provided all the copywriting services.  Programming needs included options for colors, fabrics, shipping methods, and white glove service options.

Layla Grayce had exponential growth, and relied on Zynk Designs to provide guidance for their in-house employees, as well as to design new home pages, site wide updates, and weekly marketing email campaigns, create print ads and promotional printed materials, and work with affiliate companies to develop online banner ads.  A monthly marketing calendar was created, and Zynk Designs created the LG blog, contributing many posts and graphics.

Website functionality was upgraded to meet the needs of the growing company, and changing design aesthetics resulted in overhauling the branding and website multiple times during my time working with Layla Grayce.  The first incarnation mixed French country with shabby chic, with a large selection  for nursery decor and women's products similar to those found at Anthropologie. Design trends changed, the look of the site became more refined, but the owners always leaned into a preference for maximalism rather than minimalism.  While not my personal aesthetic, good designers serve clients with different tastes, always finding the best creative solution to achieve their client's goals. As the owner's design sense evolved, it was decided to begin a new business that would market to a different customer base. Together we worked to launch a companion website for modern and transitional home goods and furnishings, Zinc Door.  Both companies were later closed, and today the Layla Grayce website is run by former employees of the original owners.

Delilah K

Created: 29 Jul 2009 / Categories: Branding, Business Identity

Project description

Based in Canada, the company sold fashion jewelry, but wanted to create a new market focused on bridal jewelry and accessories. First developing a set of logos and color schemes for the fashion brand, Delilah K, and for Delilah K Bridal, logos were then utilized across social media channels and on product packaging to unify the brand messaging.

Marketing strategy was integral to promoting Delilah K, with editorial look books being created to generate brand awareness, and online banner ad campaigns designed and tracked for ROI. A marketing calendar was created to define seasonal objectives and plan for home page updates, blog posts, email newsletters, print ads, and new seasonal look books, with all design work performed by Zynk Designs.
